Summer Fun date Change/New Outing! July 30, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — mopsofsomerset @ 7:35 pm

The Summer Fun date at Indian Lake, hosted by Jackie and Mandy Mostoller has been changed to August 13. Please call Mandy or Jackie for directions, as Indian Lake can be a little tricky.

Also, we are adding a date! On August 6 at 10:30 AM, we will gather at the Windber Rec Park. It’s a little farther than we usually go, but it’s worth the trip. It’s fun. They have a nice pool with a fun, twisty slide, and the playground is great. The playground and walking trail are free, but the pool fees are $6 for adults and $5 for students. There is also a concession stand, but it is pretty basic (hot dogs, nachos, candy, etc.) They don’t charge the fee if you are not swimming (like a parent who has children swimming). You are allowed to take your own food in, and there are picnic tables. There are also benches, but you may want to take a blanket or chair to sit on. Please call Jamee Boozer or send a message on facebook with any questions.

MOPS Spring 2012 Newsletter

Just in case you missed the last meeting, or you missed some of the announcements, we’ve created this handy little newsletter to keep you in the know!  Sorry about the boring format, but getting the information out was more important than how it looked this time!  Our schedule of meetings is also on the website at http://www.mopsofsomerset.wordpress.com.

Spring Happenings:

Moms Night Out!  March 9, 2012, 6:30 PM (more details to come)

MOPS & POPS, an April date is to be determined.

Are you in?  Spring MOPS Fitness Challenge

Catherine Hackett has planned a fitness challenge for us to participate in.  We earn points each day for healthy habits and exercise.  We are teamed by discussion groups.  You are encouraged to support each other through text, e-mail, phone calls, etc.  If you didn’t get the printout, please let us know, and Cat will e-mail it to you.

Lenten Vacation Bible School

Central City United Methodist Church is holding Bible School for toddler-aged children up to 7th grade on Wednesday nights Feb 29-Mar 28 from 6:30-8:00 PM.  We are traveling back to Nazareth when Jesus was a kid!  See Jamee Boozer for more information or directions.

Glimpse.Glean.Grow

This is a way for members of our MOPS group and others to study parts of the Bible together with as much commitment as you can.  It will include daily self-guided reading and pondering, weekly online conversation and monthly get-togethers.  It’s not too late to start.  Just dive right in on the day’s passage.  All pertinent information and the study guide is at http://glimpsegleangrow.wordpress.com.  The first monthly meeting is Thursday, Feb 16 at St. Paul’s in the Library (where we have MOPS).  From the blog:

Glimpse.Glean.Grow is a group that is seeking to encourage individuals to embark on a journey of daily personal Bible study. Our journey through the Bible will be guided by three (3) questions about the passages we are reading.  Glimpse: What is this passage saying? Glean: What do I learn about God? Grow: How does what I have learned change my life?

Parenting Toddlers

MOPS mom, Jessie Draper, is gauging interest in 6-8 week toddler parenting class at the church where her husband is pastor, First Christian Church, in Somerset.  Free childcare is included, and there is a small fee for materials.  This class is from Gary Ezzo, the author of “On Becoming Babywise.”  Please research his methods to see if they would be suitable to your family, and contact Jessie for more information if you are interested.

Women of Faith

You’ve probably heard of this amazing women’s ministry by now.  They are coming back to Pittsburgh again this year on September 28-29, and we are gathering a group to go.  More information is at www.womenoffaith.com.  Our group gets a discounted rate of $89 per seat, and we are seated all together.  A deposit is due by Easter, and the remainder of the cost is due before July 10.  You can even make daily, weekly, or monthly payments with their new system.  More information about transportation and/or lodging will be available soon.  Please contact Jamee Boozer or Luray Rhoads for more information.

Announcements and Newsletter Contributions

Our time at MOPS is somewhat limited, and all of the announcements can be overwhelming.  I am committed to getting information out to the moms as often as possible.  Accordingly, if there is an announcement to make at MOPS, please submit it to jameebooz@yahoo.com.  I will include it in our newsletter and on our website.  Please include date, time, important information, contact person, contact method.
